1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/2 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup almonds, chopped
2 tablespoons Old School Favorites chocolate Szauce (plus more for drizzling)
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted (plus 2 tablespoons for the waffle iron)
1 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs, beaten
Chop the almonds. Combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and add them to the dry ingredients, along with the buttermilk, stirring until just combined. Melt the butter and add the Szauce to the melted butter, stirring together before pouring the mixture into the mixing bowl. Stir until the chocolate and butter have been incorporated into the waffle batter.
Heat the waffle iron. When it is hot enough, brush the iron with melted butter to prevent the batter from sticking. Cook the waffles until golden brown. We like to serve them hot with additional drizzled Szauce, whipped cream, and our favorite berries. For a decadent treat, add a scoop of your favorite ice cream. Get creative and enjoy!
