Have Dessert Tonight! Proven Health Benefits of Maple Syrup and Dark Chocolate

Here at OSF, we fully believe in treating ourselves - with a serving of something sweet AND nutritious. Desserts shouldn’t be laden with artificial sugars and saturated fats, and that’s why we use organic maple syrup and dark chocolate in our nutsz and szauces. So you can feel good about the treats you and your family are enjoying.

Why It’s Good For You: Maple Syrup

Our recipe for nutsz is simple: California walnuts blanketed in a shell of Crown Maple Syrup and a pinch of sea salt. But we didn’t pick maple syrup solely because it’s delicious; maple syrup is actually an antioxidant-packing, immune system boosting, digestion-improving super ingredient. It can even improve your complexion. Talk about some sweet perks! And since walnuts are linked with lowering bad cholesterol and producing heart healthy agents, walnuts and maple syrup are a match made in heaven!
  • A study conducted by the University of Rhode Island found that pure maple syrup may decrease your risk of cancer, osteoporosis and even Alzheimer's.
  • It’s loaded with antioxidants, which improve your immune system and acts as a natural anti-ager.
  • Maple syrup also features high levels of zinc and manganese, both linked with maintaining a healthy heart.

Why It’s Good For You: Dark Chocolate

Rarely do any of us need an excuse to eat chocolate, but we’ll give you a few anyway! We proudly use stone ground Taza Chocolate as the base of our szauce. Unrefined and boasting a bold, rich flavor, Taza Chocolate honors the natural flavors and health benefits of pure cacao.
  • Dark chocolate is rich in insoluble fiber, protein and antioxidants. In fact, some studies show that one serving of dark chocolate contains a higher antioxidant profile than blueberries and acai berries.
  • Chocolate is a healthy skin booster! Studies showing that regular consumption of dark chocolate leads to 25% less moisture loss and a great resistance to sunburns.
  • Chocolate has multiple anti-inflammatory compounds, which is directly linked with lowering blood pressure.
